The project involved the 1,800 sf renovation of a storefront to provide the minimum accouterments for a 75 seat theater in a flexible design, offering multiple seating arrangements and maximum performance space.

Aside from the required toilets and mechanical room enclosure, there are no fixed partitions. A ceiling system, occupying a 1′- 6″ zone at the underside of the existing structure and consisting of tubular beams and aluminum soundproofed panels, supports a bridge-crane from which are suspended four movable walls, each with its unique programmatic role in the theater: The Entry Truss; The Lighting Booth Truss; The Lighting Truss; and, The Stage Wall Truss.

This flexible scheme for “four walls” and a “roof”  endeavored  to consolidate and minimize the infrastructure requirements for a small theater.
