After moving to Paris from New York City and starting a family, the prospect of developing a family vacation retreat in the south west of Ireland became more practical and alluring; the house could be accessed easier and would be used more frequently.

The house was built by the parents of the present owner as a vacation home to be used during retirement. As a prime example of the infamous “’bungalow blight” it possessed minimal architectural attributes aside from being well positioned on a magnificent site situated on the famed Ring of Kerry.

Within a tight budget, the goals were to upgrade of all technical systems to meet the highest energy efficiency standards while transforming the outdated plan to provide for open-plan living and enhanced views and access to the surrounded natural preserve.

After receiving initial pricing the project was reconceived to achieve the planning goals at reduced cost.
