Design 2
Following from Design 1, Design 2 introduces additional complexity to the issues of site and program with the demand that these conditions be considered simultaneously toward the development of a solution.
Three Projects:
Photographers Studio– Problem 1 introduced programmatic complexity. The students were asked to design dwelling units for two families along with accommodations for work.
Addition to Villa Cook- Problem 2 introduced site as an existing work of architecture. The project invited a study of the “5 points of Modern Architecture” with the goal of both understanding and critique. Through combined analysis and making, the project sought to elevate the students understanding of what goes into the making of significant architecture.
Ferry Terminal- Problem 3 was for the design a ferry terminal on Randell’s Island. The project focused on strategies for the creation of interior and exterior space along with formulating perimeter and boundary. The project also addressed issues of path and place within a passage from water to land.
